The Resilient Families Project began as a collaborative effort among child welfare professionals, service providers, birth parents, foster parents, and community partners who shared a common goal: finding better ways to support everyone involved in the child welfare system.
We believe that when families, caregivers, and professionals receive the support they need, children have greater opportunities to thrive—whether in their homes, foster placements, or other caregiving environments.
In 2025, the project launched a regional listening initiative that included surveys, community forums, and one-on-one conversations. We asked participants to share their experiences, challenges, and ideas for creating a stronger, more supportive child welfare system.
The Resilient Families Conference was created in response to what we heard. Birth parents and foster parents repeatedly shared the same message: “We feel alone in this.” Participants also expressed a need for a better understanding of the legal system, DCFS processes, and the resources available to support families and children.
Above all, people told us they wanted hope, connection, and practical support for building a better future. The Resilient Families Conference brings those voices together, creating opportunities to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the network of support surrounding children and families.
STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS. STRONGER FAMILIES. STRONGER FUTURES.
